I was born in Houston, Texas but spent most of my childhood just around the corner in the big city of Gatesville, Texas. I have an older sister that lives in Indiana and an older brother that still lives in Gatesville. My oldest daughter, Melisa, lives in Abilene where she is an EMT. My oldest son, Brody, is a student at East View HS. I was blessed with a little girl named Riley Jo in 2009 and boy/girl twins named Cord and Callie in 2012. As if the kids don't keep me busy enough, I also have 2 dogs named Boudreaux and Piper. I LOVE watching football, especially the Colts and the Broncos. My favorite color is purple. After graduating from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in May of 2002, I started teaching in the Killeen Independent School District. I taught second grade for 3 years and third grade for 1 1/2 years in Killeen ISD at Duncan Elementary. I began teaching third grade at Ford in January of 2007. I moved to the 2nd grade team in 2016, and I love it!

Hello! My name is Kristin Firkins and I am so excited to start my 17th year teaching! I started my education all the way up in Buffalo, NY where I was born and raised. I went to the State University of New York at Fredonia and received my Bachelor's degree in Childhood Education. About a year later, I moved to Virginia Beach and taught 3rd grade for 3 years in Norfolk Public Schools. When I moved to Texas, I taught 1st grade for one year in Round Rock and I fell in love with the primary grades and the amount of progress that they are capable of showing through the school year! In my spare time I like to play and hang out with my family. My 13 year old daughter Mikayla, 8 year old daughter Taylor, and my 6 year old daughter Chloe are very important to me and I value family above everything else. I enjoy doing anything crafty and being at school with my wonderful students & kindergarten team. Thank you so much for allowing me to teach and guide your children through their first year at Ford Elementary! It will be wonderful...I promise!

Teaching Experiences: 3rd grade teacher in Norfolk, Virginia for 3 years; Long-Term Substitute in Round Rock ISD for 1 year in 2nd and 4th grade; 1st grade teacher in Round Rock ISD, 1st Grade teacher in Georgetown ISD for 1 year; 2nd grade teacher at Ford Elementary for 5 years; kindergarten at Ford Elementary for 2 years.

My husband, Todd Jansson, teaches American History at Ridgeview Middle School in Round Rock. I have a daughter, Adeline, and a son, Crawford. We have three dogs named Kitty, Arya, and Red. I have a big sister, a little brother, and two little sisters. I love college football, especially the Kansas State Wildcats. Purple is my favorite color!!! I enjoy running and sewing in my free time. Upon graduating from Kansas State University in 2003, my husband and I moved to the Austin area and I began my career in education. I taught for two years at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic School in Granger, Texas before moving to Ford. This is my 15th year teaching third grade at Ford.
